Who makes your clothes?

Depending on the quantity and type of piece we are making we manufacture in house as well as engaging with local manufacturers in Melbourne who aspire to similar sustainability standards.

Can you share a little more about your values?

We work to support a ‘slow fashion’ approach to making our pieces. We focus on making ethically made items with our focus on timeless pieces that our customers will hold on to and cherish. We choose our materials with intention and care using all environmentally friendly fabrics such as Hemp, Organic Cotton and Linen for its low environmental impact and sustainable approach. Most of our pieces such as our bags and signature hats are Made to Order. In this way we only make what is needed and minimise waste from excess stock. We make in small batches where our pieces adhere to a limited bespoke range encouraging a more intimate and personalised approach to making. We strive to minimize our environmental footprint by keeping everything local throughout the design and manufacturing process. We source our fabric and materials from local suppliers and chose to produce all of our pieces locally in Melbourne – whether it’s in our home studio or outsourced to local manufacturers such as; Vanessa Gullone in Melbourne.

Which particular fabrics do you use?

We are conscious of the extensive impact fibres can have on our environment, this drives us to consider materials which are of natural origins, grown in suitable environments and have minimal impact at the conclusion of the products life cycle. These points ultimately lead us to focusing on materials such as Hemp, Organic Cotton and Linen.

Any extra efforts you make at Char Studio that you can share?

With every collection our focus is on sharing and encouraging craftsmanship in our pieces. Manifest through traditional techniques such as hand embroidery, natural dyeing from food waste and hand drawn textile prints. This creates an intimate approach with our pieces, allowing our way of making to be heavily involved with the process.
