Ricepaper the Label

Simple, elegant and ethical garments which are manufactured in Melbourne.

Ethically made. Locally made. Minimal waste. Sustainable. Transparent.

Ricepaper is located and manufactured in Melbourne.

Who makes your clothes?

We have a number of makers as a part of the Ricepaper manufacturing team. Vanessa Gullone – who is based in Heidelberg West and whom we have been working with across most styles for over two years now. Emma Bovill – Based in Brunswick who works with us on all our knitwear and lounge pieces and most recently we have been working with Amanda from Melbourne Fashion Lab on a few small projects, who is based in Maribyrnong.

Can you share a little more about your values?

Transparent and Local: We are 100% transparent with sharing information on where and how our garments get made and our sourcing processes. They are all made in Melbourne, Australia, within 15km from our HQ.

Sustainable: As we are growing we are using more dead stock fabrics and searching for more transparency on where our fabrics are coming from and what they are made of/ how their life cycle effects the environment.

Ethically made: All our garments are made in Melbourne, Australia. We are in constant communication with each of our makers on price points and timelines. All our makers are responsible for pricing the garments and scheduling in production time frames etc. All work environments are safe and secure for all makers to be working in – Vanessa Gullone is now accredited with Ethical Clothing Australia as of December 2020.

Which particular fabrics do you use?

We mainly use dead stock fibres consisting of fabrics that are going to wear well but are also healthy for our planet – these include linens, cottons, rayons and blends.

Any extra efforts you make at Ricepaper that you can share?

As well as being transparent and sustainable across all aspects of our business we also pride ourselves in the customer service we offer to clients. We know shopping online can be hard and sometimes very frustrating but we really do offer help and service at every step of the way. Our sustainability also translates to the freight and shipping of all orders, we use 100% biodegradable packs to ship garments, that are compostable.

Can you share some labels you admire?

Oh this is so tricky! Would have to say Alpha 60 and Elk.
