Elk and Ina

Creative slow fashion for modern women.

Ethically made. Locally made. Made to order. Minimal waste. Sustainable.

Elk and Ina is an organic cotton and linen slow fashion label, curated and hand-crafted for women – like you – who want to infuse creativity and beauty into their lives.

Elk and Ina is located and manufactured in Brisbane, Queensland.

Who makes your clothes?

Myself and one other seamstress.

Can you share a little more about your values?

Ethically made: Each piece is handmade either by myself or my one seamstress that helps out. She is paid well and works from her own premises.

Locally made: Each piece is made in Brisbane.

Made To Order: Most pieces are available in a custom made to order format, where the customer is able to provide measurements for a beautiful fit!

Minimal waste: Every effort is made to minimise the amount of waste involved in production of the clothing. Offcuts are used in other ways and leftovers are donated to other sewists who can use them.

Sustainable: I love using natural fibres in my designs and each piece is created either made to order or in very small batches so there is no excess stock.

Which particular fabrics do you use?

I mostly use organic cotton and linen as they are natural, breathable and biodegradable. I also use some vintage Japanese kimono remnants and occasionally I will use small pieces of cotton for detail. I love using eco friendly fabric paints on some of my pieces as well.

Any extra efforts you make at Elk and Ina that you can share?

I try to use a lot of my offcuts in other ways, such as the ties for my swing tags, pockets and patches. Most of the fabric that I don’t use is donated to sewists who use them for fillings, dolls clothes etc.

Can you share some labels you admire?

Kindling, Kowtow, The Sewloist, North, Hickey Hardware, Nelson Molloy
